Government Official States Ministry of Defence Looking at Security Risk from Vehicles from China, with Staff Told to Avoid Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the possible threats associated with Chinese-made cars, while staff have been told to refrain from discussing secret matters in all cars.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

In a recent interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on reports that MoD staff have been instructed not to discuss classified information while travelling in Chinese vehicles.

The minister stated that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that security is a issue in every modern cars.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified level in any car, because of the growing threats of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

This revelation follows reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese electric buses, which could enable China to disable public transport and cause chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly directing lasers at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

This wider security situation highlights the importance of strong measures and caution in all aspects of official operations, from transport use to discussions habits.
